Science Plans May 19-23

May 21 – 24

Monday: The students will begin the chapter on sound and diagram & illustrate the ear. 

Tuesday: Field Day!

Wednesday: Students will take an end of the year sixth grade science test.

Thursday: Students will watch a Planet Earth video on animal relationships.

 Friday: Last day of school and students will complete science puzzles and worksheets.

Science Plans May 12-16

Monday: The students will complete the Mission to the Moon Project and build their lunar rover.

Tuesday: The students will finalize presentations of their Missions to the Moon and begin presenting to the class.

Wednesday: The students will complete presentations of their mission to the moon.

Thursday: Virtual dissection of a worm plus other web sites with worm related topics.

Friday: The students will dissect a worm.

Science Plans May 5-9

Mission to the Moon Project – Students will be working in groups to complete a part of the project each day. Presentations of their completed mission to the moon will be made next Monday and be graded by a rubric.

Monday: The students will read and discuss background information on the moon, create a mission name, logo and patch. They will also create a list of specialized people that they would want to go on the mission with them.

Tuesday: The students will read about living in space and create a list of things needed to live on the moon. They will also explain why they are needed or what they are used for.

Wednesday: The students will design space suits to wear while on the moon, come up with an emergency plan for sickness and predict health problems that may arise on the moon.

Thursday: The students will build a lunar rover from materials they brought in during the week.

Friday: The students will explain how they will get power on the moon and what they will do to handle all of the dust on the moon. They will aslo prepare for their presentations on Monday.

Science Plans April 28 – May 2

Monday: The students will complete the Family Life Test.

Tuesday: The students will explain why some materials are magnetic and describe the 4 different types of magnets. (spi.6.14.3)

Wednesday: The students will complete a light activity with a spectrascope. (spi.6.14.5)

Thursday:  The students will build a solenoid and view a demonstration with different shapes of magnets. (spi.6.14.3)

Friday: The students will explain how a magnetic field can produce an electric current. (spi.6.14.3)

Each day we will meet for approx 30 minutes after the TCAP test.  Tuesday and Wednesday we will continue to review since the science test is not until Thursday.  Thursday and Friday we will examine the heat and light activity buckets.

See everyone Saturday morning for our field trip to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center!!!  

Monday: The students will complete ch 17 on Light.  The students will discuss the electromagnetic spectrum and the 7 different types of  waves(6.14.5).

Tuesday: The students will create a foldable on the 7 different types of waves. (6.14.5)
 

Wednesday: The students will examine the interactions of light waves. (reflection, refraction and absorption) ch 17 sec 3 page 495-500. spi.6.14.5 

Thursday: The students will watch a video and Brain Pop on light interactions. (spi.6.14.5)

Friday: Quiz on the electromagnetic spectrum and light interactions. (spi.6.14.5)

Science Plans March 10-14

The Space and Rocket Center trip to Huntsville, AL has been rescheduled for March 29th due to the weather.  All times, groups, buses and schedules remain the same.

Monday: The students will complete the quiz from Friday and review several lessons from the TCAP Coach book.

Tuesday: The students will complete the start up activity “Some Like It Hot” on page 361 in the text. They will also describe how temperature relates to kinetic energy and compare temperature scales. ch 13 sec 1 pages 362-366 (spi.6.14.4)

Wednesday:  The students will define heat and compare conduction, convection and radiation. They will also explain the differences between temperature, thermal energy and heat. ch 13 sec 2 pages 367-375 (spi.6.14.2)

Thursday: The students will complete the workbook pages for ch 13 sec 2 and create a foldable illustrating examples of conduction, convection and radiation. (spi.6.14.2)

Friday: The students will complete the ch 12 quiz on heat.
