Science Plans Oct. 1-5

Science Plans Sept. 24-28

Monday: The students will go to the science lab and use the knowledge learned over the last several weeks about lab tools and measurement in a practical lab. They will find volume, mass, length and temperature while they rotate through 10 different stations.

HW: study for the ch 2 section 1 quiz Tuesday

Tuesday: The students will participate in the Capturing the Wild Bean Lab. (Lab Book section of the text page 546-547. (spi.6.3.1) Students will also complete a quiz over ch 2 section 1.

Wednesday: The students will describe the functions of producers, consumers and decomposers in an ecosystem. (ch 2 sec 2 pages 40-41) (spi.6.3.1) The students will also create a 3 tab book entitled the energy connection where students will define, describe and draw pictures to illustrate producers, consumers and decomposers.
Please bring art supplies to class.

Thursday: The students will complete their 3 tab book on producers, consumers and decomposers.  The students will watch a Brain Pop over organism interactions.

Friday: The students will distinguish between a food chain and a food web and explain how energy flows through a food web. (ch 2 sec 2 page 42) (spi.6.3.1) The students will also create a food chain and a food web using strips of different colored construction paper

Science Plans Sept. 17-21

Monday:  The students will go over  the ch 1 test, analyze and graph the results from the consumer product test from last week.

Tuesday: The students will begin ch 2 Interactions of Living Things. Students will complete the start up activity on page 35 Who Eats Whom, compare and contrast the biotic and abiotic environment and relate the terms to their neighborhood. (ch 2 sec 1 page 36) (spi. 6.2.1) They will also complete the quick lab Human Population.

Wednesday: The students will explain how populations, communities, ecosystems and the biosphere are related. (ch 2 sec 1 pages 37- 39) (spi.6.2.1)

HW: Review ch 2 sec 1 Notes

Thursday: The students will create a diagram of the 5 levels of environmental organization according to a rubric. Please Bring Art Supplies to class.

Science Plans Sept. 10 – 14

Monday: The students will review different types of graphs and how to read a thermometer on 3 different scales.  Students will also begin a graphing activity that will last all week.

HW: study for the lab tools quiz Tuesday

Tuesday: Students will take a quiz over the lab tools that we sketched and identified last week.  They will also finish thier workbook pages for ch 1 sections 3 and 4.

Wednesday: Students will review for the ch 1 test on Thursday through a game and a crossword puzzle.

HW: study for the Ch 1 test

Thursday: Students will take the ch 1 test and complete a pre-test for ch 2.

Friday: The students will distinguish between biotic and abiotic factors in the environment and complete the quick lab on page 37. (spi.6.3.1)

Science Plans September 3-7

Monday: Labor Day (No School)

Tuesday: The students will go to the science lab to complete their blueprint.  They will also complete the workbook pages for ch 1 sections 1 and 2.

Wednesday: We will begin to identify and sketch lab tools.(6.3.2)

Thursday: The students will finish identifying lab tools and complete measurement calculations with graduated cylinders and triple beam balances.(6.3.4)

Friday: The students will complete graphing handouts and start a graphing and measurement activity.(6.3.4)
